Agenti Climatici Masterplan Won The International Concorso Farini Competition
OMA and Laboratorio Permanente won the Concorso Farini competition

OMA and Laboratorio Permanente, an architecture firm based in Milan have won the Concorso Farini competition to redevelop the two disused railway yards, the Scalo Farini and San Cristoforo sites, North and South of the periphery of Milan. The masterplan named Climatic Agents (Agenti Climatici) was designed by the partners of OMA, Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli, and Reinier de Graaf, in cooperation with Laboratorio Permanente.

In the proposal, the Scalo Farini site is designated as the green zone, while the site of San Cristoforo will be the blue zone, both working as ecological filters. The green zone containing a spacious park will help cool down hot winds as it enters from the south-west resulting in the purification of air from toxic and harmful particles. On the other hand, the blue zone, with its large basin, will clean the groundwater and produce a landscape suitable for both animals and humans. Thanks to clean water and air that these new zones will provide, we’ll see Milan’s ecology revived and address pollution and climate change on a modern scale.
In today’s world, there’s a massive change in our priorities because of the dramatic transformation in the environment and continuing doubt in the economy. Brick is no longer seen as a currency with the most value, but instead, it is what cities all over the world can provide and guarantee for their residents in terms of climatic conditions.
