In July 2017, Singapore will host the World Engineers Summit 2017 – Applied Energy Symposium and Forum: Low Carbon Cities and Urban Energy (WES-CUE 2017) Joint Conference. The third biennial conference will continue to champion engineering-led discussions on sustainable urban development while drawing upon the rich technical content of the Applied Energy Symposium and Forum series, to deliver depth and breadth to conference delegates.Rapid urbanisation is elevating energy demand to unprecedented levels, with cities accounting for about three-quarters of the world’s energy consumption. The ability of cities to break away from energy- and carbon- intensive development and move towards high energy efficiency and sustainable practices will be a major factor in shaping global economic security and climate-resilience.
On the back of the historic COP 21 agreement made in December 2015, WES-CUE 2017 will provide an important platform for engineers to turn talk into action through the exchange of the latest progress in urban energy systems and policy options in the areas of transport, building, industry, environment, power generation and energy storage. The WES-CUE 2017 Joint Conference will convene engineers and scientists from multiple disciplines, energy specialists, urban planning specialists, environmental and water specialists, academia, financiers, manufacturers, policy makers, researchers and business leaders from diverse industries around the world in Singapore. As a rapidly urbanising city-state with limited resources, Singapore has become a unique urban energy solutions ‘living lab’, providing the ideal setting for international sustainability-centric discussions.
