ECOURBANHUB is founded in January 2015 and based in the city of Leipzig, Germany. The Energy & Environment Cluster is a growth driver in Leipzig and the ideal environment for ECOURBANHUB. In and around Leipzig-based organisations like the European Energy Exchange (EEX), the natural gas giant VNG, the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), the German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ), the Research Center For Local Energy Management at the University of Leipzig and several medium- and small-sized companies represent the broad-based cluster.
With its constantly growing population in recent years, Leipzig is located about 200 kilometers south of the German capital Berlin and 120 kilometers west of Dresden. It changed from a city with a high number of vacant flats after the fall of the Berlin Wall to a place with a fast-growing creative scene, thriving young artists, a growing industry and an active startup community. People are linked together through shared events, activities, locations and interactions. This startup ecosystem with its open-minded people and versatile inspirations provides a beneficial atmosphere for ECOURBANHUB.
